The Luminous City of Kashi
Kashi, also known as Varanasi, is a city steeped in ancient history and spirituality. Located in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India, Kashi has been continuously inhabited for over 3,000 years, making it one of the oldest cities in existence. Hindus consider Kashi the holiest city, believing that those who die here attain moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and reincarnation). Lord Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation, is said to perform his cosmic dance, the Tandava, in Kashi.
